Valentine’s Day 2018 is on the way, but cupid has struck early as we take a break from our usual schedule of Oahu real estate market reports with a special delivery.
Hawaii is one of the most romantic places in the world, and Oahu is home to some of the most enchanting spots of the entire island chain. We’re not talking about the hordes of fine dining establishments. Instead, we’ve come up with an insider’s list of the most romantic beaches to take your loved one to this coming February 14th.
5 Most Romantic Beaches on Oahu to Spend the Day at With Your Valentine
1. From Here to Eternity Beach
The 1953 film From Here to Eternity, starring Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, and Frank Sinatra is not just a psychological character study, but a romantic soap opera. It has gone down in history for featuring one of the most romantic performances on film, but more importantly, delivering one of the best kissing scenes Hollywood has ever seen. That kiss (between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr) took place on one of the smaller but no less breathtaking pockets of beachfront sand on the island. Also known as Halona Beach Cove, you and your loved one can easily access this windward locale which is located off of Kalanianaole Highway between Haunama Bay and Sandy Beach Park. And if you find a home in Hawaii Kai you can make this your own special place for many Valentine’s Days to come. Find directions here.
2. Diamond Head Beach
This one is perfect for those of you considering popping the question on Valentine’s Day. What could be a more appropriate place to present a diamond, than at the beachfront base of world famous Diamond Head crater? This romantic spot is located just a 5-minute drive or 15-minute tandem bike ride from bustling Waikiki Beach, yet is exquisitely secluded, frequented by lone surfers and couples who want to escape the crowds. Another big plus is that the south shore beach boasts one of the best sunset views on the island. Find directions here and if you’re interested in learning more about Diamond Head community real estate, visit this link.
3. Lanikai Beach
Located next to the more crowded Kailua Beach, Lanikai does get some spillover foot traffic but that does not soil the romance one bit. How can it when you find a quaint little spot further down the beach that looks directly out to the Mokulua Islands? The azure water here is as picture perfect as it gets on Oahu. If you really want to add a splash of romance, you can rent a double-person kayak and paddle out to Moku Nui to come ashore and walk hand in hand towards one of the large tide pools on the easterly side of the island. There, the two of you can bathe in seclusion while enjoying the healing waters of the North Pacific. Find directions here.
4. Waimanalo Beach
This beach stretches for nearly five miles, all the way from Wailea Point to Makapuu, making it one of the longest beaches on the island. That means you and your beloved will find a spot to frolic (keeping it PG-13) and sunbathe without being distuRBed. The shore breaking waves are heavy in some sections, but the scenery and soft shoreline sand make Waimanalo a classically romantic Hawaiian beach. Find directions here and search homes in the neighboring Hawaii Kai community.
5. Sunset Beach
The name is romantic enough, but the beach deserves the distinction of being on this list regardless. While the entire North Shore (aka Seven Mile Miracle) is a wondrous place, Sunset Beach exudes romance, thanks in part to the picturesque hanging palm that juts out from the tropical flora towards the sea. This beach is quieter than Ehukai (Pipeline), Waimea Bay, Haleiwa Beach Park, Ali’i Beach Park, and other popular destinations in the area. The steep slopping shore will allow you and your loved one to nestle your toes firmly into the sand, feel the breeze, and watch the sunset in peace, from this piece of paradise.
